Lecture - Teaching Technology
|
Technology has, for a long time, been evident in our teaching practices. Opportunities to radically reshape our approaches are however growing rapidly: learning analytics; augmented reality; personalisation and adaptive content; maker spaces and 3D printing; affective computing – these are all technologies that will become increasingly significant in the area of education. This brief talk will explore some of the current educational technological innovations that are emerging and the opportunities to use these to rethink our approaches and enhance learning outcomes for our students. |

Lecture - Learning CS/IT through Games
|
While we understand the importance of having adequate CS/IT knowledge and skills in many disciplines, it is very difficult for young students to be deeply engaged in “studying” those topics. However, many of those students do enjoy some forms of Computer Games. Computer Games are excellent platforms to introduce our young future Programmers, Software Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers to the digitally-oriented disciplines. Computer Games provide opportunities to teach them not only software programming but also many other technical and social skills. This talk will cover topics on what we can teach our young students about Computer Science/Information Technology through working with Gaming environment. |

Lab session - 3D printing With Associate Professor Fabio Ramos |
We will demonstrate how to write a program to create a 3D model using Opencad. OpenSCAD is not an interactive modeller. Instead it is something like a 3D-compiler that reads in a script file that describes the object and renders the 3D model from this script file. This gives you (the designer) full control over the modelling process and enables you to easily change any step in the modelling process or make designs that are defined by configurable parameters. |

Lab session - Building robots with Arduinos With Associate Professor Fabio Ramos |
We will build a robot based on arduino and 3D printed parts. The project is based on arduino nano board, servos and ultrasonic sensor. It is easy to print, assemble, small, fun and great intro into electronics and robotics. ArduBot is fully controlled by IR remote control and it has 3 modes: • Manual control by IR remote forward, backward, right and left) • Autonomous mode (ArduBot navigates to avoiding obstacles and choosing the best way.) • Monitor mode (ArduBot is monitorng objects in front of the ultrasonic sensor.) Watch a vide of ArduBot. |
