I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technologies in the University of Sydney. I am currently the Honours Coordinator, though I have been the Undergraduate Director in the School for 8 years, between 2007-2014.

My research interests are in the area of
  • text mining
  • machine learning
  • NLP and
  • in particular, the application of computational techniques to help find evidence for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Integrative Medicine (IM).
We have recently established ACCLAIM (Analytic and Clinical Cooperative Laboratory for Integrative Medicine) with the Institute of Integrative Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in July2016. It is a joint Big Data laboratory for integrative medicine research. I am currently serving as the Co-Director of ACCLAIM.

We also have a weekly research seminar session called LeMMa (Learning and Mining with Machine), currently on Fri 1-2. Feel free to join us.

You can find out my publication here.

Draft of a 3-year scholarship is available. Contact me if you want to know more about the project.

My focus in the past few years were concentrated in the use of computational method (or people like to call it as BIG DATA recently) to find core drugs in bringing the efficacy of treatment. But with the establishment of the joint lab, ACCLAIM, one of the priorities is devoted to text mining. Information needs to be extracted from biomedical journal and clinical notes, both in English and Chinese. These are reflected in the Hons projects being offered.

If you want to find out the Honours projects that I am happy to offer in 2017, you can go download the slides I have presented during the Honours Information Week. If you have some other ideas, feel free to contact me for a chat.

You can download the slides I presented about the application and administrative details in the Information Session from this link.
